About Women of Hopkins
Women of Hopkins seeks to provide our Hopkins alums, friends and allies the opportunity to engage with, and to build a network of women professionals from a broad range of industries, with shared interests and goals. In addition to our parent Women of Hopkins Group, we also have local groups in major metropolitan areas, including Los Angeles, Boston, and New York City and topical recurring events, like our Imposter Syndrome Series.
Women of Hopkins' activities are designed to build community, opportunity, resource sharing, and personal advancement. Activities include regional networking events, lunch-and-learn seminars, one-to-one mentoring, group-wide meetings and other activities that support group objectives and member goals.

First Women of Johns Hopkins
Class of 1974In September of 1970, 90 women broke a 94-year tradition and entered Hopkins as undergraduates. The first female undergraduate freshmen were admitted in the fall of 1970 making 1974 the first full class of undergraduate women. A small cohort of women transfer students graduated in 1971, 1972 and 1973.
In 1974, President Steven Muller thought it would be appropriate for the women of Johns Hopkins to have a part in commencement, as it was the first graduating class. A group of women from the class of '74 got together and wrote a commencement speech, then drew straws to see who would recite it. Cynthia Young won and gave the speech at Commencement.
The first women of Hopkins reunited for their 50th reunion during Alumni Weekend 2024. View photos from the 50th reunion and hear from the women as they share their experiences as students in this great write-up in the Hub.
